Building a better mousetrap

"...the printed book as a piece of technology has yet to be improved upon."

It would be awesome to be able to search a book.

How about testing your new service on a blog who's audience primarily uses a browser you don't support yet.

On the Couch

“He took it out on the couch and said, ‘Play with it,’ and I said, ‘No.’”

You can't make this stuff up...

Ugly Duckling

Mozilla recently announced that the Mac version of Firefox 3 will have Mac OS X specific user interface. While the new interface uses native Mac widgets, it nothing like a native Mac interface. The redesign currently being shown is effectively a "find and replace"
redesign where the old style Firefox interface elements have been replaced with the Mac OS X equivalent. This has the effect of making the user interface look very cluttered busy and ultimately un-Mac-like. Another notable error is that the make-over is still using the old brushed metal window chrome that has been dumped by Apple in the latest version of Mac OS X.

I want a split view web browser!

A few articles I've read recently including this interesting interview, have given me cause to wish for a feature popular in text editors and word processors. The feature I'm referring to is split view editing. If you have a long document and frequently need to refer to the earlier parts of the document it can be very handy and save you a lot of time and frustration.

In the interview I linked to above the first question mentions a specific article published by each interviewee. I found I wanted to refer back to the first question as I read through the interview because it's difficult to remember which author wrote which article, especially when you're not familiar with the authors. In this situation it would have been very handy to be able to split the view and keep the first question in view, while reading through the other questions. It would have saved me a lot of scrolling!

Indian givers?

Gizmodo accuses Apple of being indian givers because Apple gave them a warranty and then refused to honour it when the terms of that warranty are violated.

There is no justification for such an accusation. You can't even claim ignorance since everyone in this day and age should be aware that warranties come with conditions.
